Overview: While this silicone case has quite the price tag for limited looking protection; don’t be fooled by the category, this thing is actually made of a very durable shock resistant material called d3o.

Durability: Not a whole lot here to rate. The case is basically a single band all the way around your phones edges; and while it’s classified as a “silicone” case, it’s actually very resilient to being pulled. The downside is that if it is stretched or bent a few times it will begin to lose its shape, if bent back though; it does regain much of its original form.

Design/Functionality: As I said before, this isn’t technically a silicone case, it is made out of a material called d3o; it is quite flexible but when subject to shock it hardened momentarily, absorbing impact extremely well. The material has been used in several other applications, from everything to motorcycle gloves to being used in futuristic body armor. This is a very cool idea, but it increases production costs significantly, and you definitely see the price difference with this case.

Unfortunately, while the material is a very powerful shock absorber the case still leaves a lot to be desired. Mainly it only covers the edges, and while that is going to be the spot where most phones are dropped on, having no back protection especially is a bit troublesome. Even a thin layer would go far to make this skin feel much more protective. The skin is thick enough to buffer the back and front to some degree, but the back especially could suffer significant damage if dropped straight down on a hard surface due to its slightly protruding nature.

In addition the material also makes the operation of the power button especially difficult and the vibrate switch is completely covered up. In my opinion, any case you have to remove it to operate any feature of the phone loses a lot of points, especially one that isn’t real easy to put off and on in the first place. I will say that the rubber feel makes it very easy to hold though.

Conclusion: This is a great case if you’re looking for state of the art protection, but unfortunately it could use a bit more coverage and more accessibility.
