Overview:  The Amzer Custom-Grip vehicle Mount for the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G S is a great, affordable product for anyone who is looking to have their phone do more than just sit in the seat next to them or lie in the cup holder. It’s flexible, but sturdy design makes it very flexible and usable almost anywhere in your vehicle.

Durability:  Not a whole lot to say, the exterior of the piece is made almost entirely of plastic and a bit of rubber. I found all the pieces to be resilient and durable to scratches and bending and found it to hold up very well when under the rigors of normal use.

Design/Functionality: The design is fairly simple, robust and adaptable. It has a large suction cup at the base that can be engaged or disengaged using a small attached switch that raises or lowers the center to create suction. It’s designed for glass but is should adhere to any perfectly smooth surface. In addition, if it gets stuck on something it does have a little tab on the end you can pull to easily remove it from any surface.

After the base is a short snake cable a tad over three inches long. It’s fairly stiff so that it won’t move due to gravity or light bumps but isn’t so stiff as to make it overly difficult to adjust.

The piece at the end is the standout of the model though. It features a rotator cuff like design that’s tension can be manipulated with a knob for either stability or ease of use. The end has a connector where you attach the plate you put on your phone and can be swapped out for other car kits of the same model by Amzer. So if you have both the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G of this car kit for example, you can just swap the end pieces out, making it convenient for either huge nerds or families. The end piece does snap in very firmly and even after repeated shaking it neither came loose from the phone or the car mount.

The phone mount itself grips quite tightly but doesn’t prohibit the use of the slide out screen. The only downside is it does grip the phone over the charging port, making charging while using this car mount impossible. It does cover the speaker/camera as well, but I noticed no noticeable decrease in either sound or quality due to it.

Conclusion: This is a great, affordable car kit by Amzer that offers great maneuverability, grip and control.
